The average person speaks at the pace of about 150 words per minute, so in the course of a 30-minute sermon, you might preach between 4,000 - 5,000 words. Transcribing your sermon is important for three main reasons:

1. Search. Posting a transcription alongside your sermon empowers search engines to find your content. There are people right now searching for "grace" and "forgiveness" and "how to know God" and "what does Jesus think about divorce" and transcription makes your sermon content searchable for these any many other queries.
   
2. The gift that keeps on giving. Transcription is the first step to repurposing your sermon into other potential formats, like closed captioning, blog posts, editorials, social media posts, books, and more. Transcription is the first step in empowering your sermon content to be searchable, discoverable, and projectable by congregation members and your external community. 

1. Functional or Literal. A functional transcription edits out the speaker's imperfections like "um," "uh," coughing, interruptions, audience laughing, and the like. A literal transcription includes those imperfections and costs extra because it requires more editorial time. Court transcripts usually require literal transcription; sermons usually do not.
2. Biblical terminology. Make sure your transcriptionist is acquainted with biblical names, places, and terminology.
